What time should I wake up if I sleep at 12:00 PM?

If you go to bed at 12:00 PM and take the usual 14 minutes to fall asleep, the best wake-up times land at the end of a 90-minute sleep cycle. The table gives them, and one tap sets the alarm.

Sleep runs in cycles of roughly 90 minutes, moving from light sleep through deep sleep into REM and back. Waking at the end of a cycle feels clear-headed; waking in the middle of deep sleep is the groggy feeling that lasts an hour. Five cycles is 7.5 hours of sleep and six is 9, the range most adults do well on. If you have to be up earlier, four cycles (6 hours) is the least-bad short night; three is a long nap.

Searched as “what time should I wake up if I sleep at 12:00 PM”, “if I go to bed at 12:00 PM when should I wake up” and “sleep at 12:00 PM wake up time”. To go the other way, the sleep calculator gives bedtimes for any wake-up time, and every alarm page shows the bedtimes for that alarm.

Questions

Will the alarm ring if I close the tab or the laptop?

No. No website can ring after the browser is closed or the computer sleeps. Keep this tab open, plug in, and the clock keeps the screen awake for you. The Ready-to-ring check under the clock shows what is set up correctly.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes on Android while the tab is open (behind other tabs is fine). On iPhone the page must stay in the foreground because Safari does not let web pages play sound from the background. Add it to the Home Screen for a full-screen bedside clock.

Is it loud enough for heavy sleepers?

Pick Loud buzzer or Siren, set the volume slider to full, and switch on the sums-to-stop option in Settings so the alarm cannot be dismissed half asleep. The sunrise light brightens the screen before the alarm too.

Can I use my own sound?

Yes. In Settings, choose an MP3, WAV or OGG file. It is stored in this browser only and never uploaded. There are also 60 built-in sounds, from a twin-bell alarm clock and a rooster to an air horn and a music box, on the sounds page.

What do the sleep sounds do?

Rain, brown noise, white noise, fan and ocean are generated in the browser and play until the alarm, then fade out as it rings. They keep the tab active through the night.

Does it need an internet connection?

Only to load the page the first time. Alarms, sounds, the sleep calculator and the sunrise math all run on your device, and the page works offline once it has been opened.

Is anything stored or sent?

Alarms and settings are saved in your browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to a server, and there is no account.

Why not just sleep eight hours from 12:00 PM?

Eight hours is five and a third cycles, so an alarm exactly eight hours after lights-out often lands in deep sleep. Seven and a half or nine hours, both whole cycles, usually feel better than eight.

How accurate is the 90-minute cycle?

It is an average; real cycles run 80 to 110 minutes and the first ones of the night are shorter. Treat the times as the best guess, and adjust by 15 minutes either way if you consistently wake groggy.

Does the alarm ring if I close the tab?

The full alarm rings while this tab stays open. Turn on the backup notification in Settings and a notification also arrives at the alarm time with the browser closed.
