How to use it
Start typing a city and pick it from the list. The two clocks at the top switch to the two places immediately, so even without entering a flight you can see what time it is at your destination right now and how many hours ahead or behind it is. Enter the departure time from your ticket, in the local time of the city you leave from, and the flight length, and the landing time appears in the destination's local time on the right calendar day.
The calculator uses the real time zone rules for the date you enter, including daylight saving, so a New York to London trip in March and the same trip in April give different answers, as they should. Half-hour zones such as India and Adelaide are handled too.
Beating jet lag
Jet lag roughly costs a day of adjustment for every hour of time difference beyond the first two or three, and flying east is harder than flying west. The jet lag box gives that estimate and the direction. On the plane, set your watch to destination time, eat and sleep on that schedule as far as you can, and use the alarm clock with the sunrise light for the first mornings.
Questions
Will the alarm ring if I close the tab or the laptop?
No. No website can ring after the browser is closed or the computer sleeps. Keep this tab open, plug in, and the clock keeps the screen awake for you. The Ready-to-ring check under the clock shows what is set up correctly.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes on Android while the tab is open (behind other tabs is fine). On iPhone the page must stay in the foreground because Safari does not let web pages play sound from the background. Add it to the Home Screen for a full-screen bedside clock.
Is it loud enough for heavy sleepers?
Pick Loud buzzer or Siren, set the volume slider to full, and switch on the sums-to-stop option in Settings so the alarm cannot be dismissed half asleep. The sunrise light brightens the screen before the alarm too.
Can I use my own sound?
Yes. In Settings, choose an MP3, WAV or OGG file. It is stored in this browser only and never uploaded. There are also 60 built-in sounds, from a twin-bell alarm clock and a rooster to an air horn and a music box, on the sounds page.
What do the sleep sounds do?
Rain, brown noise, white noise, fan and ocean are generated in the browser and play until the alarm, then fade out as it rings. They keep the tab active through the night.
Does it need an internet connection?
Only to load the page the first time. Alarms, sounds, the sleep calculator and the sunrise math all run on your device, and the page works offline once it has been opened.
Is anything stored or sent?
Alarms and settings are saved in your browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to a server, and there is no account.
How does the travel time calculator work?
Pick the city you are leaving from and the city you are going to. The calculator reads both time zones, including daylight saving on the exact date, and shows what time it is at your destination at any moment of your trip: when you leave, when you land, and right now. Add the flight time from your ticket and the landing time is worked out for you.
Why is the time difference not a round number?
Some countries are offset by half or quarter hours: India is UTC+5:30, Nepal UTC+5:45, and parts of Australia use UTC+9:30. Time differences also change twice a year when one side switches daylight saving and the other does not, which is why the calculator uses the actual date rather than a fixed offset.
How do I set an alarm for the local time at my destination?
Once you have the arrival time, use the Set an alarm link under the result. It opens the alarm clock with that time so you can arm it on your phone before you sleep on the plane or on the first night.
Does it work for any city?
The list covers the cities people travel between most, and every entry maps to an official IANA time zone, so daylight saving changes are handled automatically. If your city is not listed, choose the nearest big city in the same country or region.
