About alarmwake
alarmwake is a free alarm clock, timer and sleep calculator that runs entirely in your browser. There is no account, no upload and no server involved in setting or ringing an alarm: the page keeps time with your device's clock, saves your alarms in your browser's local storage, and plays sounds it synthesizes on the spot. It works offline once it has loaded, and it can be installed as an app on phones and desktops that support it.
What it can and cannot do
- Rings while the tab is open. On a desktop browser that includes background tabs. On Android it includes background tabs while Chrome is running. On iPhone and iPad the page must stay in the foreground, because Safari does not allow web pages to make sound from the background.
- Keeps your screen awake while an alarm is armed, using the browser's screen wake lock where it is supported, so a laptop or a propped-up phone does not go to sleep before the alarm.
- Cannot ring after the browser is closed. No website can. For the first night, set your phone's built-in alarm as a backup until you trust the setup.
Sounds
Classic beep, digital, gentle chime, bell, siren and birds are all generated with the Web Audio API. "Start quiet, get louder" ramps the volume from soft to full over thirty seconds.
Sleep math
Bedtimes are counted back from the wake-up time in 90-minute cycles plus 14 minutes to fall asleep. Sunrise and sunset use the standard NOAA solar equations and your location stays on your device.
Ads
The site is supported by unobtrusive ads that never cover the clock, the alarm list or the stop button.
